id="caption-attachment-670" class="wp-caption-text">Marble-lined bathroom and shower

Hip but very cold. Tuve is a brand new hotel, opened barely 6 months ago. Everything is, of course, sparkling clean and modern. A little too modern if I dare say. The floor and walls are concrete, the ceiling a plain mat white. The walls and doors are dark metal and glass, all straight lines and flat. I think Tuve would be the ideal place for hipsters and minimalist design lovers, but to me, it definitely lacked warmth and that cozy feeling I need when I return home…just because for me the hotel room needs to feel a little like home after a long day of walking and exploring.

The bed is fluffy and comfortable, but sleep quality was affected by inadequate soundproofing. I could hear the guests in the next room opening their door and showering!

The amenities:

Lacking. There is no gym, pool or any special amenities for business travellers. I was well aware of that before booking and those services were not necessary for the purpose of my trip, but nevertheless, I thought it would be useful to mention it. The one restaurant is on the main floor but seems to be often closed whenever I passed by so I didn’t get to try it. The room itself is well equipped with all the necessities: safe, drip coffee, TV and slippers! etc. I particularly loved the bathroom products from Fresh!

The location:

Awesome. Located a 5 minutes stroll from Tin Hau subway station, Tuve is also just across the street from many cross-harbor bus stops. We took buses 102,106 and 116 on many occasions to go to Kowloon. These two storeys buses are comfortable, rapid and efficient.

If you want to remain on the island, Tin Hau station is in the middle of the blue lane, which makes it very easy to transit to the business district in Central, the shopping malls in Causeway Bay or even a quick visit to Victoria Peak.

If you want to reminisce the old days, hop on one of the trams that stop right across the street from Tuve. This charming mode of transportation has more than a century of history and will transport you (slowly, but surely) from the west to the east coast of Hong Kong island.

I can’t even stop myself to go on about how good the location is. Tin Hau is literally heaven for foodies as it is full of eateries, from little stands on the street to large dine-in restaurants. Here are a few we have tried and loved:

Top Grade hot pot (5-7 Tsing Fung St, Hong Kong)

Extremely tasty and fresh beef and seafood for hot pot. We got there for an early dinner around 5:30pm without calling in advance. Their reservations were full but we were offered a table right away with a 30% discount if we could return the table before 7pm. Pretty fair. Special offers were available for birthdays as well. We particularly loved the razor clams, the marbled beef slices and the tomato and potato soup base. Service was good also.

2. Auntie Sweet (13 Tsing Fung St, Hong Kong)

Different types of desserts, ranging from Chinese sweet soup to cakes and fruit salad and shakes. Line up can seem long sometimes but turnover is quick.

3. Yo Yi Tui Chicken (Electric Road just out of Tin Hau station exit A2)

Juicy chicken leg skewer wrapped in its own skin and grilled to perfection in front of you. The store is literally just a hole in the wall as you walk on Electric street, so careful not to miss it.

Overall, it was a very nice experience of something a little different compared to the latest hotels we’ve been to.
