After more than 20 hours of flight, needless to say that anywhere with a nice bed would seem like heaven. It’s only after waking up the next morning that I paid more attention to the details.

The Room: Very comfortable. There were three separate twin beds in a very spacious room, so each of us had our own space. The place is clean but very very outdated. The view is on the crowded street, but surprisingly the noise didn’t reach us.

The Amenities: Wifi is available, but only in the common areas. It doesn’t reach the inside of the room, unless you’re flattened agains the door. So we ended up spending a lot of time in the lobby or even the hallway leading to our room. The breakfast buffet has great variety, but costs 10 USD per person. You can survive a whole day with that money in Thailand. Nevertheless, we tried it the first morning and loved the Chinese porridge.

The Location: Excellent. It is located on a busy commercial street adjacent to famous (and extremely noisy) Khao San road. There are souvenir shops, food stalls and a lot of tourism offices for information. I think it was the perfect location to be close to the action, but still be able to keep your distance when you want to rest your ears.

Overall, a nice hotel for the budget students that we were, but you can definitely find something more modern.

Contact: Viengtai Hotel, 42 Rambuttri Road , Banglampu 10200 Tel : +66 2 280 5434 | Fax : +66 2 281 8153

SLEEP WITHINN [5/10]

Lobby: photo from hotel website

Room: photo from hotel website

Funny because Viengtai was the first hotel we stayed at after landing from Canada and Sleep Withinn is the last hotel we stayed at before taking off. I had a flight to Tokyo at 5:45 am so I spent almost no time enjoying the amenities of this hotel.

The Room: Extremely small. Barely fits the two beds that are inside and we had no space to open more than one suitcase at a time. The layout of the bathroom is weird, the toilet being inside the shower, less than two feet away, so there was no way not to wet the seat while taking a shower. Privacy is close to non-existent since the only thing separating the shower and room is a thin glass door, which is not very soundproof either. There were no ventilation system.

The Location: Very good. Lots of dining and entertainment options on the same street. Near Khao San road, but not too close. There’s a 7Eleven right downstairs if you need anything. Don’t forget to try out the coconut ice-cream stall at the street corner! It’s one of the few times when 30 Baht can buy you so much happiness!

Overall, not a very good option. Although the location is good, I think there are better options on the same street. Even for budget travellers like us at the time, we would have paid a little extra for better.

Contact: 76 Rambuttri road, Phra nakorn 10200 Tel :+66(0)2 280 3070 | Fax: +66(0)2 280 3071

During our three weeks in Thailand, we’ve visited so many places that we ended up making very short stays in multiple hotels. In this post, I’ll be able to tell you which hotels we have appreciated the most…and also which ones you should avoid.
